Knowledge Exchange Forums

Minding Our Bodies presented the following full-day Knowledge Exchange Forums for priority audiences (mental health program managers, peer support workers, physical activity trainers, dietitians and other nutrition professionals, etc.) , to raise awareness of Minding Our Bodies, share lessons learned from the pilot phases, present successful program models, facilitate networking and partnership building, introduce participants to the toolkit resources and grow the community of practice.

Pooling Ideas Forum

On Friday, March 15, 2013, Minding Our Bodies held a knowledge exchange and networking forum in Toronto, Ontario, to showcase the most promising practices based on the 2012/2013 Minding Our Bodies-funded programs. Program coordinators/ managers and allied partners shared what works in physical activity and healthy eating programming to support people at risk of, or living with, mental health and addiction issues. More than 45 people participated in the full-day workshop, hosted at the YWCA Elm Centre, a community support centre dedicated to improving the lives of girls and women. Read more>>

Youth in Action: Healthy Eating and Physical Activity for Mental Health

On Friday, February 15, 2013, Minding Our Bodies held a knowledge exchange forum in Thunder Bay, Ontario, to explore the role of physical activity and healthy eating in mental health promotion and recovery from mental illness for youth. More than 50 people participated in the full-day workshop, hosted at Ka-Na-Chi-Hih, a specialized solvent abuse treatment centre serving First Nation youth. Read more>>

Equity in Action: Planning Physical Activity and Healthy Eating Programs for Marginalized Communities

On Tuesday, November 20th, 2012, Minding Our Bodies and Health Equity and Race Ontario (HERO) hosted “Equity in Action” at the Taggart Family YMCA- YWCA, in Ottawa, Ontario. With over 40 people in attendance, the forum brought together participants to explore the intersection(s) of equity with physical activity, healthy eating, and mental health. Read more>>

Healthy Eating and Physical Activity for Women’s Mental Health

On Friday, May 4, 2012, Minding Our Bodies hosted the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity for Women’s Mental Health forum at the Stoney Creek Community Centre and YMCA in London, Ontario. It was a sold-out event, with more than 60 participants from community mental health organizations, consumer/survivor initiatives, public health units, community health centres, social service agencies, and housing programs. Mental Health and Physical Activity Roundtable

Ready, set, go! The Mental Health and Physical Activity Roundtable on Thursday May 5, 2011 did just that in a successful day that included the exchange of ideas through networking, keynote addresses, a consumer discussion panel, and a Circuit Café. Eating Well for Mental Health Forum

The Eating Well for Mental Health Forum took place on March 25, 2011 at the Stop Green Barn. Over 20 program representatives and peer leaders attended from pilot programs from the healthy eating and physical activity phases of the Minding Our Bodies project. This forum served as a conclusion to Phase 2 of the project and brought the pilots who participated in the fall, Eating Well for Mental Health training day, full circle. It was also a great opportunity for previous pilots and other community members to learn from each other’s experiences. Read more>>

Eating Well Training Day

Program leaders from across the province were invited to the Eating Well for Mental Health Training Day based on their expressed interest in becoming involved in the healthy eating phase of the Minding Our Bodies project. Over 20 leaders converged in Toronto on September 23, 2010 at George Brown College to learn and share ideas for healthy eating programming for people with serious mental illness. Read more>>
