 The 2013 Bell Let’s Talk Community Fund will provide grants of $5,000 to $50,000 to organizations, hospitals and agencies focused on improving access to mental health care and making a positive impact in their communities from coast-to-coast-to-coast. Applications for 2013 grants will be accepted from January 14 to March 31, 2013.

Preference will be given to capacity building projects aimed at creating or expanding programs that provide front-line support and/or reduce the stigma for those impacted by mental health issues.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport has announced the launch of the Ontario Sport and Recreation Communities Fund. The OSRCF is a grant program that supports a vision of getting and keeping Ontarians active in community sport, recreation and physical activity. The application deadline for Local/Regional projects is March 19. Statements of Interest for Provincial projects are due on February 6, 2013.

Minding Our Bodies will be hosting a one-day knowledge exchange forum in Thunder Bay on February 15, 2013, to explore the role of physical activity and healthy eating in youth mental health promotion and recovery from mental illness. The Youth in Action forum is intended for program managers, decision makers, frontline workers and youth leaders in community organizations serving young people at risk of, or living with, mental health and addiction issues.

On Tuesday, November 20th, 2012, Minding Our Bodies and Health Equity and Race Ontario (HERO) hosted “Equity in Action” at the Taggart Family YMCA- YWCA, in Ottawa, Ontario. With over 40 people in attendance, the forum brought together participants from community health centres, mental health organizations, public health, and other social service organizations, to explore the intersection(s) of equity with physical activity, healthy eating, and mental health.
