In response to a worldwide epidemic of obesity and mental health disorders, the Canadian Obesity Network (CON-RCO) and the International Association for the Study of Obesity (IASO) in partnership with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) organized a Hot Topic Conference on Obesity and Mental Health, in Toronto, Canada June 26th-28th.

On Friday, May 4, 2012, Minding Our Bodies hosted the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity for Women’s Mental Health forum at the Stoney Creek Community Centre and YMCA in London, Ontario. It was a sold-out event, with more than 60 participants from community mental health organizations, consumer/survivor initiatives, public health units, community health centres, social service agencies, and housing programs. The forum’s key messages and lively dialogue were captured throughout the day on visual story boards by Liisa Sorsa of ThinkGraphics (view below).

Scott Mitchell, Director of Knowledge Transfer at CMHA Ontario, recently delivered two oral poster presentations at the annual Dietitians of Canada conference, which took place in Toronto on June 13-16, 2012.

The first presentation provided a high-level overview the Minding Our Bodies project, highlighting the importance of nutrition and food security for people with mental illness and the role dietitians can play in supporting recovery. Take a look at the poster.
